A borescope inspection will be conducted on the spacecraft to locate a small fastener and associated clip missing from a demated connector identified during preflight testing. GALEX is an orbiting space telescope that will observe galaxies in ultraviolet light across 10 billion years of cosmic history. During its 29-month mission, GALEX will produce the first comprehensive map of a Universe of galaxies under construction, bringing more understanding to how galaxies like the Milky Way were formed. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – NASA's International Space Station-RapidScat undergoes testing of its rotating radar antenna in the Space Station Processing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Built at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory JPL in California, the radar scatterometer is the first scientific Earth-observing instrument designed to operate from the exterior of the space station. It will measure Earth's ocean surface wind speed and direction, providing data to be used in weather and marine forecasting. VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, CALIF. -- The probe carrier assembly on the THEMIS spacecraft undergoes a vibration test (Z-axis). THEMIS, which stands for Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms, comprises five identical probes that will study the dynamic and colorful eruptions of auroras.
