Summary

Richard Kidd, deputy assistant secretary of the Army (Energy and Sustainability), speaks to those in attendance for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new solar panel array being built here by Georgia Power, May 15. The more than 215-acre facility is slated to be completed by the end of 2016 and is projected to produce roughly 30 megawatts of power a day. Fort Stewart’s solar farm is one of three being built in the state of Georgia by Georgia Power in conjunction with the U.S. Army. When completed, Fort Stewart will be leading the way in reaching the President of the United States’ mandate for the Army to produce 1 gigawatt of renewable energy through out all its installations.
