US COAST GUARD SWEET TREAT

BERVERLY, Mass. (July 12, 2005)--In a race against the summer heat, Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Ignatius Baran briskly prepares several colorful sorbet deserts for distinguished guests, June 11, 2005, at the First District Commander's quarter's in Beverly, Mass. Baran, an Idaho Springs, Colo native, has studied the culinary arts for nearly 13 years. His career as a Coast Guard food service specialist has landed him a series of honorary gourmet cooking experiences including several weeks at theWhite House and also at the Pentagon.
