The description ofthe Blue Cat for conformation will suffice forall of the Self-colors. The Blue Cat, The Blue Cat is called the Maltese in Amer-ica. This cat has been known under variousnames in England. It was fiist shown as theArchangel Cat, then called the RussianCat, also the Spanish Blue and ChartreuseBlue, and recently has been called the Amer-ican Blue. This latter name is probably dueto the fact that the Maltese for some years hasbeen a very favorite cat in America, and has 6ij THE CAT probably been bred more carefully than anyother breed of cat, so that its representativesformed a distinctive type of good quality. VARIETIES ^ 67 Form. — The Self-colored Cats should liavea narrow, long body, lithe in appearance, witha long and graceful neck on which the head iswell poised. The legs are medium in length,with small round feet. Coat — Color and Quality. — The coatshould be short, with hairs of even length ly-ing closely to the body, and silky and glossy,with a rich lustre of whatever the color of theanimal may be. The Blue should be a richlight blue; and it is decidedly preferable in allthe Self-colors that the tint should be perfectlyeven over the whole body, and not shade offinto a lighter one.
