spots.The spots should be medium in size, and thebetter and more distinctly defined they are thebetter the Tabby. If spots exist on the facethey are especially valuable. There should beno white. The g;eneral conformation given forthe Banded Tabbies applies to the SpottedTabby; but the nose should be dark red, andthe eyes a yellow-orange; the less greenish thebetter. In the Brown Spotted Tabby the pads of thefeet are always black, and in the Yellow orRed Spotted Tabby they may be pink. (Thespots should not be annulated.) The SpottedTabby is usually a very large cat, a greatmouser and hunter, a brave animal, well capa-ble of taking care of itself against other catsand dogs, and approaches in its general char-acteristics in many ways to the Wildcat, The Blue or Silver TaUij. Head. — Its head is small and broad, with along, sharp nose. Eyes. — The eyes are orange for the Blue VARIETIES 59 Tabby, yellow for the Silver Tabby, and forboth should be large, piercingly bright, andlustrous.

Fig. 16.—a Good Silver Tabby. Ears. — The ears are medium or somewhatlongish. Form. — In form these cats have long, nar-row, graceful bodies, with long neck and exces-sively graceful general contour. GO THE CAT Tail. — The tail is long-, tliiek at the base,curves upward, and sliould liave rings. Coat—Color and Quality.—^The hairshould be short, even, smooth, and silky. Thebase color should be a distinct blue or a silver-gray striped with black. In the Blue the colorshould be a rich, deep, l)right blue; in theSilver very much lighter, but of a very brightcolor. The black bands should be jet-black,and narrow, clear, and sharply defined. Thecushions of the feet are always black. TheBlue or Silver Tal)l)y is usually a muchsmaller animal than the Brown Tabl^y.
