His father Clyde, a pharmacist, and mother Molly, a telephone operator, lived in the house for three years before moving the family to the larger town of Earlham, Iowa, and then to California. The house (as of 2016) has its original floor, stained glass, and bulls-eye woodwork. Its period furniture was donated.
