U.S. Soldiers assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), fire the M252A1 81mm Mortar System at Mortar Firing Point 1 in the Baumholder Military Training Area, Germany, Jan. 18, 2018. The training provided the Mortarmen the opportunity to increase their proficiency and familiarization with the weapon system. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army’s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deploying forces to the U.S. Army Europe, Africa and Central Command Areas' of Responsibility within 18 hours.
