Summary
Agat Unit - Asan and Agat Invasion Beaches, War in the Pacific National Historical Park. Japanese defensive structures were built into natural crevices and caves, providing concealment that helped them to avoid destruction during the U.S. Navy's pre-invasion bombardment of the Guam coast. The terrain of the shore and the island played a significant role in military strategy and outcome for both sides, and many structures remain to provide evidence of the historic events of 1944.
