Lest we forget' buddy poppies. Washington, D.C., May 10. In tribute to the officers and enlisted men of the navy and marine corps who have given their lives in the naval service, a six foot anchor made entirely of poppies was formally presented to Secretary of the Navy, Claude A. Secretary of Navy is presented with "Buddy Poppy" anchor by Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Secretary of the Navy, Curtis D. Wilbur, was presented with a floral Poppy Anchor at the Navy Department in Washington today by Theodore Stitt, Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Secretary of the Navy is presented with this Anchor each year by the Veterans as a tribute to the services of the veterans of the Navy who lost their lives during our Nation's wars. On Memorial Day the anchor will be cast on the waters of the Potomac River with impressive ceremonies

Little Lois June Allen, five-year-old daughter of deceased veteran, presenting President Hoover with the first Buddy Poppy of the annual campaign conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States for the relief of disabled veterans and their dependants. General Pershing gets first American Legion poppy. The American Legion poppy drive was officially opened in Washington today when General John J. Pershing received a buddy poppy from Mrs. Louise W. Williams, a national president of the American Legion Auxiliary.
