Mystery' employee appears before S.E.C. Washington, D.C., May 24. Ben Greay, so-called 'mystery' employee of the Associated Gas and Electric Co., pictured as he arrived at the Securities and Exchange Commission today for questioning. Grey, who was on the utility's payroll at $5,000 a month for 11 months, told the S.E.C. that the White House made an appointment for him to see Frank R. McNinch, then head of the Federal Power Commission. He would not say who at the White House arranged the appointment but did not admit that he spent an hour with McNinch and told him that Associated Gas and Electric Co. would be willing to spend as much as $150,000,000 for new construction if tax liens would be lifted temporarily so the company could refund certain securities. Brazil signs bold agreement with U.S. Washington D.C. July 15. Brazil, through its Minister of Finance Arthur De Souza Costa, signed a financial agreement with the United States today. It was understood to involve Brazilian purchases of gold from the U.S. to the amount of $50,000,000 for purposes of exchange stabilization and as reserves for a proposed Brazil central bank. Treasury Heads urge stricter tax laws. Washington, D.C. June 17. Secretary of Treasury Henry Morgenthau, and Rosewell Magill, Undersecretary of Treasury, as they appeared before the Joint Congressional Tax Committee today to urge passage of new legislation which will close the loop-holes in the Federal Tax laws. Kung, and the Chinese Ambassador Dr. C.T. Wang, The United States arranged to sell gold to China in return for silver.
