Bash of New York, Vice President of the Bethlehem Steel Export Corp. and Manager of the Steel Export Association today told the Monopoly Committee that U.S. Steel producers were urged to join the International Steel Cartel or suffer lower export prices and European invasion of American markets. He explained that his group consults with the European group to 'divide up the world' on a basis of tonnage with a yearly quota for each. This is the Calf of Kent, a little Holstein which was sold for the Red Cross at Kent, Wash. at steadily increasing prices, bringing $600 the first time sold, $700 the next and thus increasing by bounds of $100, finally brought a price that would surely have astonished the calf itself, which for all the attention that it commanded, remained modest and not at all spoiled

O'Neal, (center) President of the American Farm Bureau Federation, told President Roosevelt at a White House conference today. The condition of farm prices is one reason for the stock market being so jittery, O'Neal told newsmen following the call. Waiting for the semimonthly relief checks at Calipatria, Imperial Valley, California. Typical story: fifteen years ago they owned farms in Oklahoma. Lost them through foreclosure when cotton prices fell after the war. Became tenants and sharecroppers. With the drought and dust they came West, 1934-1937. Never before left the county where they were born. Now although in California over a year they haven't been continuously resident in any single county long enough to become a legal resident. Reason: migratory agricultural laborers

Speaking before the Senate Agriculture Committee today, Seantor Elmer Thomas of Oklahoma, assailed "propaganda" by administration officials which he said has worked to halt the rise in prices of farm commodities. Signing New York milk marketing order Washington, D.C., Aug. 26. Sec. of Agriculture Henry Wallace Center; Commissioner Holton V. Noyes, right; of the New York Department of Agriculture, and F.R. Wilcox, director of the AAA division of marketing and marketing agreements, are looking over the Federal Milk Marketing order for the New York metropolitan marketing area. This order, which was approved by more that 70 percent of dairymen supplying the New York City market with milk in a referendum held recently throughout the New York milkshed, establishes uniform minimum prices to be paid dairymen handlers. The marketing agreement program affects about 10 million people who get an average daily supply of about 6 and a half million quarts of milk from the New York milkshed, 8/26/38
