He was named after a southern general, Joe Wheeler, by a father who thought the General was "the fightinest man he knew" and wanted his son to be likewise. He ran a fishing tackle business that went out with priorities. Although he never had an arc welding holder in his hands before entering the De Land vocational school, he and another similarly trained man have acquired speed that has doubled the Babcock production
